Today we are launching Kite Pro, our first paid product for professional developers.
We’re also launching JavaScript completions and an all-new engine for Python completions, both powered by deep learning. These are just the next steps on our journey to revolutionize how developers write code using AI.
The journey has been amazing so far. Our users tell us they are, on average, 18% more productive using Kite. And today we are thrilled to share that over 250,000 people are coding with Kite every month.
We are just scratching the surface of what machine learning can do for developers. We have a long way to go, and to make sure we have the revenue to get there we’ll be building out a portfolio of paid products targeting professional developers.
We’re taking the first step, by launching Kite Pro.
Kite Pro is a premium version of Kite that adds enhanced features. They will bring you even more delight and productivity.
We are still offering a free version of Kite, creatively named Kite Free, which has all the core features you’ve come to love!
You can find more information about Kite Free and Kite Pro here.
Thank you
We always wanted to crack the code on growth before starting to generate revenue. Now that 250,000 users are coding with Kite each month, today’s announcement is a big milestone.
It’s been a long road to get here. After about 60 engineer-years of effort, our main git repo has over 30,000 code commits and our software totals 500,000 lines of code. We’ve received over 6,000 pieces of written product feedback from you and have closed over 3,000 issues.
We feel thankful to have reached this milestone and we’d like to thank everyone who uses Kite. None of this is possible without each of you.
And as excited as we are to be here, we’re even more excited about the chapters to come. We started Kite to remove the tedious parts of writing code. We’ve been making good progress, but there’s so much more to do. Let’s do it together!
You can download Kite here and upgrade to Kite Pro here.
Happy coding,
The Kite Team
P.S. If you are a university student you can get Kite Pro for free by signing up with your school email address (instructions). And we’ll be expanding student access to high schoolers and others in the late summer, just in time for the fall semester.
